Paul Overstreet is probably more famous as a Country songwriter. His credits include #1 hits by such artists as Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, and Blake Shelton. He only has one #1 as a singer himself, "Daddy's Come Around." His other #1 song was "Baby's Got A New Baby" (1987), as he teamed up with Thom Schuyler and Fred Knobloch, calling themselves by their last name initials, S-K-O; [this song was from Schuyler, Knoblock & Overstreet, not available on CD]. His other trio #1 was "I Won't Take Less Than Your Love" with Paul Davis and Tanya Tucker (1988); [this song was included on the CD box set Tanya Tucker].

The Best Of Paul Overstreet covers 3 of his solo albums, covering the years 1988 to 1992. Every song is pure Country, and it's easy to hear his musical style and voice to that of Randy Travis. "Sowin Love," "All The Fun," "Seein' My Father In Me" and "Richest Man On Earth" were from Overstreet's second album of his career, Sowin' Love" (as in So In Love). "Daddy's Come Around," "Heroes," "Ball And Chain, "If I Could Bottle This Up" and "Billy Can't Read" were from his third album, "Heroes." Only one song was from his fourth album Love Is Strong -- the song "Take Another Run." None of the songs from his self-titled debut album are on this Best Of.

Paul Overstreet would record more albums after 1992, up to 2005. There isn't a comprehensive anthology/best of from his entire solo career, and if there will be one, it just may include his 3 #1's, and possibly his own versions of songs that hit #1 for other artists: "Forever And Ever Amen", "On The Other Hand," (both #1s by Randy Travis), "When You Say Nothing At All" (Keith Whitley), "Some Beach" (Blake Shelton). Actually, all of these songs mentioned are sung by Overstreet on his album A Songwriter's Project, Vol. 1. (The exception is "Some Beach.") Another song he wrote was "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy," which was recorded by Kenny Chesney.

This Best Of is a great intro to Paul Overstreet's early years as a solo recording artist. It is what Country is, and what should sound like. He is one of those underrated songwriters, that the songs he does write or co-writes (he co-wrote every song on this Best Of) are in reality, superb well-written and entertaining to listen to.
