"Songs Of Inspiration II"
Recently, Alan Jackson released his second album of Christian/Spiritual music, Precious Memories Volume II. Alabama also did this, releasing
two albums of Inspirational music. Their Songs of Inspiration II gets the nod this week, and Alabama has always been considered a Country act,
and they sure incorporate the Country sound. As most Country artists begin their music in the Country business, their musical roots did journey into
Christian/Religious music. (Elvis Presley started singing in church, as he would also release religious/inspirational albums in his career; a total of
three.)
Basically, this album is a true religious experience. It's a beautiful, crafted album of inspirational songs, easily lifting anyone's spirits.
The opening track, "I Am A Pilgrim" is probably the only one that has a Country feel. The remaining songs all have the religious, Christian, and
even bluegrass feels. Speaking of Bluegrass, it's heard on such tracks as "Church In The Wildwood," "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" (which the
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band covered, and one of their albums was named after this title), "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again."
In the more Christian/Religious feel, there are songs as "Suppertime," "Down By The Riverside," "Precious Memories" (which Alan Jackson covered),
"Lonesome Valley."
Contiuning the religious feel: "The Refrain Of John Dillon James," "Love Lifted Me" is soothing, beautiful. Likewise for "When
It Comes My Time." "One Life" is the traditional Alabama, a little Country, a little Religion. If there is one group that can sing "The
Star Spangled Banner," it's Alabama. It would have been great to hear this song accapella. Alabama's harmonies is another factor in their success
and popularity.
Alabama is one of the finest acts in Country music. Their involvement with Christian and Religious music is another great chapter in their career.
Songs Of Inspiration II is a great, uplifting album. Other country acts who would become involved with Christian/Religious music were The Oak
Ridge Boys and The Statler Brothers. Both of these acts were involved in recording projects with a famous name in Christian music, Bill Gaither. I haven't
found any information where Alabama recorded with Gaither, and if they did, it would be another great musical journey.
The Songs Of Inspiration set is a must for any Alabama fan, likewise for Christian music lovers. For an uplifting and positive experience,
