    "Own The Night"

Lady Antebellum debuts this week, with the third album of their career, Own The Night (2011). Their breakthrough album, was their previous album, Need You Now. The title track was a huge hit, reaching #1. The album was at the top spot of the Billboard Country Albums Chart for 31 weeks. Two songs from it hit #1, the title track, and "Our Kind Of Love." As I covered from the recent Jason Aldean review, today's Country is more like Pop. However, in Lady Antebellum's music, I can proudly say that their music IS Country, as it should sound, in the 21st Century. Lady Antebellum is in.

Another thought to liking Lady Antebellum, is that of the three members, the primary singing is not focused on just one singer. Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood, and Charles Kelly all share vocals. Hillary Scott previously auditioned for American Idol. She auditioned twice, but was rejected twice, not even making past the first round. As many Idol finalists, some who ended in the Top 5 have had more success than the actual winners. Chris Daughtry is one perfect example. Taylor Hicks had won on the season Daughtry was on. Daughty would achieve #1 status for his first two albums.

There isn't any bad songs on this album. They are all very good COUNTRY songs. For those familiar with the musical style of their hit "Need You Now," there is that comparison on many songs here. Which makes it all even better: "We Owned The Night," "Just A Kiss", "Dancin' Away With My Heart." The same goes with "When You Were Mine." (All 4 songs mentioned were hit singles from the album.)

There is a more Rockin' Country style on "Friday Night," where Bluegrass is more on "Cold As Stone." As for the remaining tracks, A L L G O O D / G R E A T C O U N T R Y ! "Singing Me Home" is good, upbeat bouncy Country. "Wanted You More" is GOOD COUNTRY. "As You Turn Away" is NICE COUNTRY. You can't help but yelp out "Hee Haw" on "Love I've Found In You" -- HEE HAW COUNTRY. "Somewhere Love Remains" -- GREAT COUNTRY. "Heart Of The World" ends the album on a nice and easy sounding Country.

Again, what is so great about Lady Antebellum is not just one primary singer. Hillary Scott (obvious), and Charles Kelly are the main co-singers. (Dave Haywood is a multi-instrumentalist.) They both sing incredibly well, as well as harmony vocals. Most of the songs Hillary Scott begins the vocalization, then Charles Kelly sings, as well as both together. And vice-versa; Charles starts, Hillary joins in. One great Charles Kelly lead-in is "Cold As Stone."

Own The Night is a must have for any fan who really enjoys Country music, and how Country music should sound like today. You can't go wrong with any of their albums. Their self-titled debut released in 2008 debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Although 3 singles were released, they weren't as remembered as their follow-up album Need You Now in 2009. This album also reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and made Lady Antebellum a household name for both Country and Rock fans. It would be a crossover album, as it reached #1 on both the Billboard Country Albums chart and the Billboard Top 200. Like Need You Now, Own The Night would also reach #1 on both the Billboard Country Albums and Billboard Top 200 charts. Own The Night won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album at the 54th Grammy Awards (2012).

Own The Night by Lady Antebellum -- Own it for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
