Members of the Christian Rock band Petra achieved solo careers. One of those members was Greg X. Volz, lead singer of Petra. Come Out Fighting was released in 1988. Interesting facts regarding Volz, he had shared the stage with Janis Joplin, and the band Chicago. He was offered to sing lead with R.E.O. Speedwagon, but turned it down, due to his Christian faith. Prior to this opportunity in which he declined, he had formed Christian bands, such as Gideon's Bible, and e Band, and had performed in a rock stage musical, called Ezekiel. But it was after the REO offer, in 1976, where he was asked to participate on the Christian band Petra's second album, Come And Join Us. Petra had already had a lead singer, Greg Hough, and also, guitarist Bob Hartman also shared lead vocals. Volz also shared lead, and was offered to sing full-time. By 1988, Petra had released a total of 11 albums, Volz would be the primary lead singer from 1979 to 1985. He would return, as there would be different iterations of Petra, such as Classic Petra (2010-2012), and Classic Petra Resurrection (2016 to the present). Volz would begin his solo career in 1986, with the full-length album The River Is Rising. Come Out Fighting was his second solo album, released in 1988.

"I Come Out Fighting" is a true high-energy track, "I Don't Know Why" has the common late-1980s Rock sound. "Take Me To The End" also has the '80s style, yet it fits the Adult Contemporary sound format. Likewise, the same for the next track, "Let The Mountains Fall." Then there's Dream On' the remake of the Aerosmith classic. Volz's version is quite different than the rock original, and this is good for him, creating his own Christian style to a well-known song, known as "Rock" or "Rock & Roll." Christian 80s Rock is in high gear on "What Will Remain,"

Back Burner has a more '80s Pop style, such as Hall & Oates. "Will You Take Me Back" is just beautiful - an 80s Christian Rock ballad. And another good 80s rock has "I Know You By Heart." The album ends with "Up To The Mountain," a great song to end the album, and an excelent album that is, as a whole.

Greg X. Volz's Come Out Fighting" is a great album. It has the great 1980s Rock style. Bands in comparison, has the likes of Survivor, Journey and Styx. However, Volz's singing voice isn't as high as the other bands mentioned, and honestly, it doesn't have to be. His voice fits the music. If it's coming out fighting to reach an accomplishment in this album's sound, he's already won. Come Out Fighting wins all the battles. Petra first appeared here in 2019, with their Spanish album Petra En Alabanza, and more of their albums, likewise Greg X. Volz's solo albums will be reviewed at later dates. Another Petra member, (singer) John Schlitt's solo releases will also be reviewed here. So it's quite obvious, Petra is a great band, and from it, Greg Xavier. Volz, the lead singer of the band, recorded great music with Petra, and on his own.
