Ricky Skaggs -- a true Country performer, great Country and Bluegrass sounding songs, and 11 #1 Country songs to his name. They're all here on his two-disc set, Country Gentleman: The Best Of Ricky Skaggs.

My first discovery of Mr. Skaggs' music was hearing some of his popular #1 songs, such a "Heartbroke" and "Highway 40 Blues." After learning he had 11 #1 Country hits, his remaining chart toppers have all equaled the brillance of traditional Country/Bluegrass sounds.

All 11 #1's are here: "Crying My Heart Over You" (1982), "I Don't Care" (1982; the Webb Pierce remake, which also hit #1), "Heartbroke," (1982), "I Wouldn't Change You If I Could," (1983), "Highway 40 Blues," (1983), "Don't Cheat In Our Hometown," (1984), "Honey (Open That Door)" (1984), "Uncle Pen," (1984), "Country Boy," (1985), "Cajun Moon," (1986), "Lovin' Only Me," (1989).

The remaining non-Number Ones are truly exceptional in the styles of Country and Bluegrass. The first disc mostly has his #1's and more. All of the songs in this compilation are standouts. Likewise, for true Bluegrass fans, especially of the movie soundtrack of O Brother Where Art Thou, an introduction (or well-known) to Ricky Skaggs' music will truly be entertaining to listen to.

Ricky Skaggs' is truly a Country/Bluegrass Legend. His Country Gentleman Best Of is an excellent compilation of his music, for old and new Country fans alike.
