Britney Spears returns (for a 4th time) on WSVNRadio this week, with her 2011 release, Femme Fatale. (Past Reviews:
Britney,
Circus,
The Singles Collection)
Femme Fatale would be her last on Jive Records, as she would move to RCA. (Jive had shut down in 2011.) For Femme Fatale, she wanted to create a
fresh sounding and fierce dance album. And, on Femme Fatale, this is just what you'll hear. Dancebeats galore, pulsing rhythms, very moving. (More on that
later...) Four singles were fromm the album, and one of them reached #1 - "Hold It Against Me." Femme Fatale also reached #1 on the Billboard Albums Chart
(Hot 200), for one week.
Pulsing beats gets the first two tracks - "Til The World Ends," (one of the four hit singles from the album), and the #1 hit "Hold It Against You."
"Inside Out" slows down just a bit, yet it fits the latest Pop/R&B styles. Get the dancing boots on for "I Wanna Go" (This song was also from the four
hit singles, and it shows.) Wanna Dance? I can't really say I enjoy "How I Roll" ... compared to the previous tracks, this one didn't "roll" for me.
"(Drop Dead) Beautiful" is a good upbeat Pop dance hit. "Seal It With A Kiss" is another upbeat Pop dancer, yet there are previous songs that are
better. "Big Fat Bass" is annoying at first (the repeating "Big Fat Bass, Big Fat Bass.") This song just could be the sequel to Meghan Trainor's "All
About That Bass." However, is Britney singing about the bass sound (as in treble and bass, as Meghan refers to), or is the Britney's bass referred to another
form of "bass"? That is, removing one letter from the front of the Bass? Things that make you go, "Hmmm..." The final result, this track is no way
compared to Meghan Trainor's (#1) hit, and "My Big Bass" wasn't one of the four hit singles. Thankfully...
"Trouble For Me" gets the dancebeats and the upbeat pulses, yet, there are other songs that are better than this one. "Big Fat Bass" ISN'T one of
them. It seems that most of the songs at this point are sounding the same. "Trip To Your Heart" has the dancebeats and pulses, yet, as mentioned, other tunes
better. "Gasoline" has the better potential, than the "least favorites" I mentioned. The album closes with the fourth of the four hit singles -
"Criminal." Sure, it's a hit, and better than the "least favorites" mentioned. And the three other hit singles are ahead of "Criminal."
Britney Spears' Femme Fatale starts out well, yet it seems that all the songs have their upbeat, dancebeats, and pulses, there are songs better than
others. The four hit singles are all good, and to add to them, "(Drop Dead) Beautiful." This is an album of pure Pop and Dance for the latest/current
sounds from 2011. Christina Aguilera and Maroon 5 gets comparison. Christina and Adam Levine's group are better than Britney, but the comparisons to them
are a compliment.
Britney Spears later releases may or may not be for everyone. Femme Fatale is a powerful Pop/Dance album. It fits the Pop genre, and is most likely
enjoyed by the younger crowd. It received positive reviews. Like Mariah Carey, her early recordings were her finest. This can be said for Britney. Femme
Fatale is good for the sounds, yet there are songs from it, that can be tossed aside, as well as songs that can (and they did), getting regular radio airplay.
The four hit singles are the proof: "Hold It Against Me," "Til The World Ends," "I Wanna Go," and "Criminal." Of the four, the #1 "Hold It Against
Me" is the best one.
