Andy Williams was one of many pre-Rock n Roll singers, from the early 1950s, and would be more popular during the peak of the Rock n Roll years. Having a TV show (as many other music stars), his music is best remembered as Easy Listening romantic styled. His biggest hits were "Moon River" and "Days Of Wine And Roses." (The latter song would be the name of his album, which would spend as many as 20 weeks on the album chart.) His beginning years were with Cadence Records, a record label that would include The Chordettes, and The Everly Brothers. A collection of 20 songs from Williams' Cadence years, I Like Your Kind Of Love: The Best Of The Cadence Years, takes a look at his recordings, from 1957-1960.

For those familiar with Williams' music of the 1960s, what is surprising to hear is the songs from this collection in the style of Rock & Roll/Pop; rather than the traditional romantic styled songs Williams' was famous for: "Butterfly," (a 45 rpm single I used to have; the flip side unfortunately was not on this compilation), "I Like Your Kind Of Love", "Canadian Sunset," "Baby Doll," "Lips Of Wine," "Do You Mind," and "The Bilao Song." Different styled songs such as "Are You Sincere" has a bit slower, yet romantic, "Wake Me When It's Over" has the jazzy Sinatra style, most identified by the band, "(In The Summertime) You Don't Want My Love" has a very upbeat pop style.

Then there's the "Standard Andy Williams" style, of very nice relaxing romantic tunes: "Walk Hand In Hand," "Lonely Street," "Summer Love," "The Hawaiian Wedding Song," (a song that would be a Williams' favorite, likewise for Elvis Presley). Other nice songs include "Beyond The Reef," "The Village Of St. Bernadette," "How Wonderful To Know." "Dreamsville has a very romantic jazz sound, "Under Paris Skies" has a snappy jazz style, as heard in songs by Tony Bennett.

Fans of Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Steve Lawrence, and Easy Listening in general will enjoy the Cadence Years of Andy Williams. The rock & roll numbers are the interesting songs to listen to, and of course, there's some incredible music that Andy Williams would continue to record through his most popular 1960s decade. Andy Williams is now 80 years old, and is still performing. His music will greatly be appreciated by both older and younger fans alike.
