Eddy Howard was a very popular singer from the Big Band Era, having numerous
hits from 1940 to 1954. With only 2 #1 hits to his name ("Sin" and
"To Each His Own"), all of his hits have been memorable for those who
remember him. His greatest hits compilation, The 22 Golden Hits Of Eddy
Howard, captures music from an era that is nowhere heard today -- Easy
Listening: easy to listen to, and relaxing.
With the help of background singers, "My Adobe Hacienda" is a reminder
of the Guy Lombardo sound. Likewise "I Wonder, I Wonder, I Wonder,"
where it also has a sound compared to the Mills Brothers, with the harmonies.
The true big band sound is heard on another popular hit, "Room Full Of Roses."
"(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" was most famous by The Nat
King Cole Trio, yet Eddy Howard's version is just as good. Another popular hit,
"Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart" was made famous by Vera Lynn. Howard's is
also just as good, but surely, everyone is used to Lynn's version, likewise
Nat King Cole's version of "Sentimental Reasons."
Simply beautiful and relaxing, is "The Girl That I Marry," the great
big band sound is great on "On A Slow Boat From China." Relaxing
with some interesting guitar work is heard on "Be Anything (But Be Mine)."
Soothing, Relaxing music is heard again on "Careless."
"There's Yes! Yes! In Your Eyes" is a great happy-go-lucky big band
tune, with the wonderful background singers and upbeat tempo. Easy Listening
Big Band music returns with "Maybe It's Because," "The Rickety Rickshaw Man"
is very upbeat, where beautiful slow ballads best describes "Miss You"
and "To Think You've Chosen Me."
"Just Because" has an upbeat big band jazz sound, some ragtime
piano, and great horn arrangements. The beautiful, soothing sounds returns on
"Maybe You'll Be There." "Ragtime Country Joe" may have had the very very
early country sound (with it's country-inspired songtitle), yet it does feature
the big band sound. "Put 'Em In A Box, Tie It With A Ribbon" is another
great upbeat big band'er, "My Blue Heaven" would be more famous in the
rock & roll era by Fats Domino, and "Candy Kisses" is another song with
a great typical Big Band sound, with great musical arrangements.
The Big Band sound, upbeat, slow and in-between has the listener recognizing
how simple and straightforward music was in the pre-Rock Era. The Big Band Era
had a unique sound, just as Rock & Roll did. Eddy Howard's music is great Easy
Listening music. So, in order to get away from the common boom-booms of hip-hop
and loudness of today's Alternative, journey back in time, when music was simple
and relaxing. The Big Band sound and Eddy Howard is a great combination for a
peaceful listen on the ears.
