WSVNRadio was founded by a gentleman by the name of Eric, who has always enjoyed music as early as 5 years old. His musical skills began at this age, by his playing the keyboards, and after high school, he joined rock and roll bands. His interest in radio surfaced in junior high school. Both music and radio broadcasting have been in his blood ever since.
As a youngster, he started his radio "make-believe" station, playing the old-time radio shows from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. In high school, he would tape radio shows, featuring DJ-chatter and featuring the latest tunes of the day. He also teamed up with friends, performing music and/or talk shows.
He still has this music format today, featuring an "All-Variety" format, playing everything from the late 1930s to today's most popular music.
The WSVNRadio website was formed in 1997, as it features “The Best in Music, Album Reviews, and its Internet radio station.” Eric took his "All-Variety" format and labeled it as "Everything in Music," which were the call letters of his first radio station, WEIM FM, in the late 1970s. WEIM was changed to WSVN in 1991. VarietyRadio was introduced on the internet, likewise WSVNRadio, in January, 2001, through Live365.com. The VarietyRadio format featured the #1 songs of the day, from 1955 to the current year. Later in 2002, songs from 1940 to 1954 were added. Another Live365.com station, WSVN_LIVE, was strictly for live broadcasts. For non-live broadcasts, a regular playlist was featured, where artists who had sent WSVNRadio their music, were played. All three stations were merged into WSVNRadio in late 2002. Its format consists of songs chosen from weekly album reviews, the #1 songs of the day, from 1940 to the current year. Live broadcasts are also presented, from time-to-time.
WSVNRadio is now promoting "tomorrow's future stars," where musicians from all over can send their music to be played on the WSVNRadio station. This began in 2001, where just a handful of artists dedicated their time to send their music to be played on the station. In August, 2002, thanks to the help of NewArtistRadio.net, many artists have become part of WSVNRadio. They were included on Volumes One and 2, and beyond. For Volume 2, the Illinois Entertainer (a music newspaper), and Wayne R. Rogazcewski of the Mp3 College Radio Network were helpful for WSVNRadio, to locate new artists from the local Illinois area, and from the college radio network. Another helpful source for Volume 7 was IndieBible.com. WSVNRadio was mentioned in their May, 2003 newsletter. The response has been very overwhelming, from many interested artists and bands.
Throughout the entire Hall of Fame series, many bands and artists have been from the United States and abroad: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wisconsin. Artists from foreign countries such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, East Sussex, Europe, Germany, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden, Tunisia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vienna and Zurich have sent WSVNRadio their music, and are also included. On that note, the band Mortice featured former members of two popular 1970s bands: Uriah Heep (Bernie Shaw, vocalist) and Nazareth (Billy Rankin, guitarist). Bernie Shaw returned for Volume 7 as part of the Collins-Shaw Project. We are also proud to announce that The Monkees’ Peter Tork helped out one of artists on our all-Country compilation, WSVN Country. It’s great to have such wonderful talent added to the WSVNRadio Family of artists.
For the first time, WSVNRadio experienced its first release delay, for Volume 8. One scheduled band, The Beers, decided to exclude from the compilation at press time. Despite copies of Volume 8 were being made, WSVNRadio stopped the presses, and searched for a replacement artist. Within a week, WSVNRadio was ready to continue, pushing it’s original release date, August 26, 2003, to two weeks later.
Each Volume has its own theme. For Volume 5, the military camouflage theme was used. Volume 6 featured the Domino theme, where 6 is the highest number found on a domino piece. The “Lucky Seven” theme was used for Volume 7, and 8-ball pool was used for Volume 8. When the number nine is thought of, especially in music, John Lennon comes to mind. Even though Volume 9 is not a John Lennon Tribute CD, it is just a continuation of the next 20 artists from WSVNRadio, just as previous volumes. For Volume Ten, the roman numeral X was used, and with that in mind, the Medieval Times/King Arthur theme was incorporated for the artwork. The movie Ocean’s 11 was thought of for Volume 11, with the impressive looking number 11, and being recently remade for the big screen. The dozen roses theme was used for Volume 12. Baker’s Dozen was used for Volume 13. For Volume 14, the GAF Viewmaster was used, as there are 14 slides per reel. For Volume 15, it’s quite obvious where music is sold; at a local music store. A picture of a record store was featured, having all 20 artists in the front window. Sweet Sixteen was the theme for Volume 16. The prism poster board was the theme for Volume 17. The Scrabble board is the theme for Volume 18, featuring all 20 artists on a Scrabble-type album cover. Continuing with games, Volume 19 has the puzzle pieces concept, where the artists’ album covers are in pieces. The Jack Daniel’s theme is used for our current Volume (20).
Blackjack was for Volume 21, and .22 Caliber for Volume 22.
Speaking of Volume 17, WSVNRadio is proud to announce that Country legend Bill Anderson became a part of this volume! The Rustie Blue & Bill Anderson duet, entitled “Chip Chip” is a major boost for WSVNRadio, as we are proud to have a major music legend in our Hall of Fame family. Special thanks to Robert Keister of Center Stage Productions, in helping this duet become possible.
As always, all previous Volumes were released with very positive results. WSVNRadio will be promoting another volume in the future. WSVNRadio is still receiving emails and cds from bands and artists interested in joining the "WSVNRadio Family." Likewise, WSVNRadio has found a few artists themselves. WSVNRadio has promoted over 300+ artists as of this date, and looking forward to promoting more.
Thanks for tuning in to WSVNRadio, and many thanks to those who have participated in sending their music!
