In today's Alternative Rock, many AR groups have their own unique sound.
Nirvana and Pearl Jam pretty much started the new trend in the late 1980s, as
many new bands in the 1990s and beyond have developed their own popularity with
today's young listeners. Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Rage Against The Machine,
and Limp Bizkit are being added to the list for the unique sound for today,
called Alternative Music. We can also add another recent group, Korn, to that
list.
The hard alternative rock sound is heard throughout many songs on this album:
"Trash," "Beg For Me," "Let's Get This Party Started," "Wish You Could Be Me,"
"Counting" and "Dirty" all have the unique AR rock sound, where a
more vocal style is recognized in songs such as the radio hit "Falling Away
From Me," and "Make Me Bad," and a real more unique vocal question is
heard in "Wake Up" -- What the f**k?
"4 U" is a bit slower, than the previous hard alternative rock songs,
but not as energetic. Short numbers such as "Dead," "It's Gonna Go Away"
and "Am I Going Crazy" are more or less lead-in intros to the next
available songs.
Like the radio hit "Falling Away From Me," "Hey Daddy" could easily
get the nod for regular radio airplay. That song, likewise "Somebody Someone"
have a somewhat soul mixed with Alternative Rock sound.
Korn's Issues has a unique sound, and may not be intentional for
certain audiences. Their music style is rough, hard, edgy, and to some of the
older fans of rock music, their opinions will vary, based on today's youth.
But like when rock first started in 1955, big-band lovers and rock lovers
quarrelled over the new music, emerging onto the scene. We can say the same
for today's music, and after listening to Korn's Issues, going back
to the classics of the past 30 years would be easier to enjoy than today's music.
