The second (and last volume) of Rhino's "The Best Of The Girl Groups,
Volume 2" gets the nod of approval for review this week, as compared to
the
first volume, there are many songs on Volume 2, that I'm not familiar with,
yet the album does have great songs from an era of music that just isn't heard
in today's musical standards.
There are 3 Number One songs contained on this volume, as they are obviously
remembered by anyone who is knowledgable of music, by any age:
| "My Boyfriend's Back" |
The Angels |
| "The Loco-Motion" |
Little Eva |
| "Easier Said Than Done" |
The Essex |
All three songs -- great oldies, great music.
There are many songs that I didn't remember, yet they are all enjoyable
songs: "The Kind Of Boy You Can't Forget" by The Raindrops,
"You Don't Know" by Ellie Greenwich, "Popsicles And Icicles" by
The Murmaids, "The One You Can't Have" by The Honeys, "Don't Say
Nothin' Bad (About My Baby)" by The Cookies, "I Met Him On A Sunday"
by The Shirelles, "Wonderful Summer" by Robin Ward, "It Might As Well
Rain Until September" by Carole King, "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To
Cry" by The Caravelles, and "Johnny Get Angry" by Joanie Summers.
However, as the next 3 songs were heard, I immediately responded with the
famous "Oh! I Remember That One!" ... "A Lover's Concerto" by The Toys,
"Chains" The Cookies (remembering The Beatles' version), and "Tell
Him" by The Exciters.
Rhino's Best Of The Girl Groups, Volume 2, like Volume 1, is a
wonderful journey down the Oldies Memory Lane. Despite many songs not
well-remembered here, it's still enjoyable to listen to, over 4 decades later.
