    "20 All-Time Greatest Hits"

Fair Warning: Tee Vee's 20-All Time Greatest Hits by Jack Greene & Jeannie Seely contains re-recordings of their popular hits, both indivdually and together. In my research in finding the #1 Country songs, it turns out that the song by Jack Greene, "Until My Dreams Comee True" was only available on CD from this compilation. His remaining #1 songs on CD are on his album The Jolly Green Giant, and they are the original recordings. Jeannie Seely is an unknown to me, yet the recordings on this week's review are also re-recordings.

Jack Greene's other #1's -- "There Goese My Everything," "All The Time," "You Are My Treasure," and "Statue Of A Fool" are all on the Tee Vee compilation, yet if you're familar with the original recordings, somehow it just doesn't rank up while listening to the re-recordings. Jack Greene's voice is still good, but much better in his heyday. Jeannie Seely, on the other hand, (because I'm not familiar with her original recordings), they do sound very good. (Somehow I'm imagining her original recordings were better, just like anyone else's.)

Jeannie Seely's re-recordings -- "Don't Touch Me," "Can I Sleep In Your Arms," "I'll Love You More," and "It's Only Love" sound very good in their own rights.

The duets, however, doesn't really match up to the indivdual recordings, yet some are better than others. "Wish I Didn't Have To Miss You" is a miss compared to the other duets. "Much Oblige" is a good song, better than the previous duet mentioned. (By the way both these duets' original recordings mentioned can be found on Greene's The Jolly Green Giant.) It's easily determined that "We Don't Want The World" has a more updated Country sound in the later decades of Country music.

Greene's non-#1's are just as good, and again, the original recordings are better. "Beautiful Lady" is a great song, despite its original recording is NOT on The Jolly Green Giant. Likewise, the originals of "The Last Letter," (another great song, as it has a sound similar to Roger Miller's "Husbands And Wives"), "Wanting You And Not Having You" and "California Turanarounds" are NOT on the Giant album either. However, the original recordings of "What Locks The Door," "Back In The Arms Of Love," "I Need Somebody Bad," and ""Love Takes Care Of Me" are all found on the Giant album.

Being familar with Jack Greene's original recordings, they are better than the remakes. Jeannie Seely's songs on this album maybe a bit better than the re-recordings by Greene, since I'm not familiar with Seely's music. It is obvious these are re-recordings, having a more updated Country sound. Greene's voice is still as good on these re-recordings, as they were recorded (my guess) in much later years. For the original recordings, Greene's The Jolly Green Giant is the better choice. In researching Jeannie Seely, her original recordings can be found on her Greatest Hits On Monument (Monument Records). Her biggest hit was "Don't Touch Me." She would have other hits on the Decca/MCA labels. "Until My Dreams Come True" by Jack Greene was the reason why I purchased this CD, already knowing that all the songs were re-recordings. I still have yet to find his original recording of "Until...", yet this Greatest Hits has its moments, the original recordings definitely stand out better.
