    "Fun And Games"

Chuck Mangione returns to WSVNRadio, with his 1979 release, Fun And Games. His Feels So Good album, and song of the same name put him on the map, as being a very distinguished and talented trumpet player. The album mentioned was truly excellent, and Fun And Games is really no different.

The leadoff track, "Give It All You Got," has high school memories for me, as this song was used for background music for commercials we made in our Radio & TV classes. This song was also commisioned by ABC Sports for the 1980 Winter Olympics. Smooth Jazz in its finest form is heard on "You're The Best There Is." The least favorite track is "Pina Colada," a song with scat-jazz vocals in its beginning, (they almost sound like Rap) and scat-jazz instrumentation. I'm not a big fan of scat-jazz, but its one of the popular sounds in contemporary Jazz styles.

"I Never Missed Someone Before" is very laid-back, soothing, relaxing, a good mood setter. It easily fits the Smooth Jazz style. Speaking of laid-back and soothing, "Give It All You Got But Slowly" is a slowed-down version of the first track from this album. Again, its another soothing relaxer. The last/title track, is upbeat, classy, and a good way to end the album.

A fine album, Fun And Games is definitely a good Smooth Jazz release. The only song I did not care for, was "Pina Colada." But its a good way to branch out to different variations/styles of Jazz. It sounds like this album was recorded as Fun, and as for Games, one of the songs was used for ABC Sports. Chuck Mangione proves outstanding and exceptional in his music. Since 1960, he has recorded numerous albums, and he still performs today. Chuck Mangione's music is a treat -- It's great Smooth Jazz music, and another artist you would enjoy hearing more of.
