"Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds"

Izzy Stradlin was a guitarist for the band Guns 'N Roses. His first solo album, the self-titled Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds does not have the typical Guns 'N Roses sound, if anyone expected. It's really basic rock 'n roll, basically covering the style of the late 1980s bands, not the heavy-metal hair bands, although there may be a song or two that could fit that mold. A friend of mine had this CD when it was released in 1992, and the track "Somebody Knockin'" was the radio hit. This song, as well as many others distinguishes Stradlin with his own sound, away from Guns 'N Roses.

The "not your typical Guns 'N Roses sound" has songs such as "Time Gone By," "Shuffle It All" in their own rights. A much later Rolling Stones sound can be a comparison ("Shuffle It All") or even a late 1970s/1980s Stones blend on "Train Tracks" or even "Cuttin' The Rug" and "Take A Look At The Guy." Also in the "not your typical G'NR sound" category are the songs "Pressure Drop" and "Bucket O' Trouble" -- they both have a punkish rock style. "How Will It Go" slows down the rocking music, just as the Stones would do, as well as Guns 'N Roses. "Come On Now Inside" is another slow-pacer; this one can compare to the slower songs of Bob Dylan. There is a hidden track at the end of "Come On Now Inside" -- The song called "Morning Tea" -- it is an instrumental, and a strange one, yet again, being way different than the typical rock & roll sound, heard throughout this album. It sounds like an indian war chant in a sense, easily seeing the fact this song is a hidden track, and totally different in sound than that of the previous 10 tracks on the album.

This album is definitely NOT Guns 'N Roses. It's more basic rock & roll; comparing to the Rolling Stones from their late 1970s/early 1980s. Stradlin does have his own style, away from G'NR. Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds does define your basic rock roots. And like the Stones sang in one of their famous hits -- It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, and I like it. You'll like Izzy Stradlin's rock 'n' roll too.
