David Hasselhoff "Everybody Sunshine"
THE HOFF HAS ARRIVED!
David Hasselhoff is a huge success in Germany... as a singer. Yes, a singer, yet he had a successful TV career, starring in Baywatch,
a popular television series, in the 1990s. He was also one of the original judges on the America's Got Talent television show. And, of course,
his beginning was also in television, starring in the successful TV series, Knight Rider.
But what many may or may not know, is that the Hoff has had a long career in music. His hit song, "Looking For Freedom" was a huge hit in
both the UK and Germany. From 1985 to 2019, he was released 14 studio albums (his current is to be released in November, 2019). His sixth album of his
music career, Everybody Sunshine (1992) gets the nod this week, and is his debut on our website. (Yes, there will be more of his albums to come.)
Leading this album, is the
"official song of the International Youth Games 1991" --
the title track, "Everybody Sunshine." It sounds like a song that would be the theme of an event. "Joined At The Heart" is the next
track, and at this point, I can honestly say, how was it, that Hasselhoff's singing could be a successful? In Germany, Europe? Really? I have heard
many actors-trying-the singing" thing, and again, honestly, I have heard better, and yes, worse. David's singing voice doesn't really match his speaking
voice, in my opinion. "Somewhere In A Dream" is better, yet it is not the best. "Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi" (In looking this phrase,
it means -- actually very polite French, for "would you like to sleep with me tonight." This song has the dance trance upbeats. Disco? Could be.
Can you picture the Hoff dancing to this? Yes. But sleeping with him -- Um, no. Not a chance.
"The Wilder Side Of You" is a rocking tune, yet Hoff's singing voice could be better. (This song, and "Somewhere In A Dream" has an
almost-Country feel. Things slow down a bit, on the mellow "You're All I Want." Again, the singing could be improved. Then there is the ROCKING
(much better than "The Wilder Side Of You" (music wise). It is a rocker, and Hoff's vocals somewhat, passes the test. "It feels right" ? For now,
comparing to the past songs heard.
Another on the techno/disco side, is "Summer In The City," which was one of 3 singles from this album - the title track, and "Darling I Love
You." This song is just ok, yet it fits most of the upbeat dance tracks that were heard in the early 1990s. That "country feeling" has "The Girl
Forever," yet it sounds more novelty'ish in sound. Wait.. isn't that what this album is? "Foolish Lullaby" -- again, his singing... Oh,
novelty, right, novelty...
"Darling I Love You" -- definitely Country'ish. Better than Jerry Springer? Yes, on that one. The album closes with a remix of the "Is
Everybody Happy." Another Pop'ish sounding tune from the early 1990s. (Artists such as the early Whitney, Paula Abdul, etc.)
Let's face it, David Hasselhoff is NOT a singer. Yet he tries. He is better with his acting than this. Throughout his music career, there has to be
better albums he recorded, than this one. And that, will be determined at later dates, as we will again, review his recorded music. Then again, maybe
David Hasselhoff is considered a "novelty singer" ? This album, Everybody Sunshine does define that. As mentioned, he was a huge favorite in
Germany and the UK. (Then again, there has been some "strange" music from those countries, especially Germany. But I am not complaining.)
WSVNRadio has proved again and again, that "Everything in Music" applies. David Hasselhoff has his career in music, and his "style" easily fits
the "Everything in Music" slogan that WSVNRadio provides. For some, his music is just as entertaining as the other. Yet again, it may just not in this
album's case. It is more novelty than serious music he sings. Yet it's David Hasselhoff, the actor. There have been other actors/actresses who took
the chance in singing, and recording albums. Hasselhoff's musical career has spanned decades, whether his singing is taken seriously, or not.
Better than Jerry Springer? Yes! Better than Don Johnson? No. There are others of course, who were/are better than the Hoff, and some who are not.
But keeping an open mind, you have to give the Hoff credit for trying. I am sure there are other of his albums that are better than Everybody
Sunshine. We will determine that, at later dates.
