"Christmas Songs"
Diana Krall returns this week, and like
Frank Sinatra's Ultimate Christmas, it's another perfect choice for the holiday
season. (One more week to go for the year 2021, 12/26/2021, after Christmas). 12 Christmas songs by Diana, and they're all just superb Jazz.
Her version of "Jingle Bells" is just great -- the Big Band/Jazzy sound, it's a-finger-snappin' and she even gives the scat vocals. "Let It Snow"
is another great upbeat Jazzy tune. "The Christmas Song" sets the mood, her version is just superb, in the traditional style as others have recorded it.
"Winter Wonderland" has a cool jazz style. Again, her version of the Christmas classic is superb. "I'll Be Home For Christmas"
"Christmas Time Is Here" (the song that was famous from A Charlie Brown Christmas; Vince Guaraldi) is another beautiful track by Diana. Oh, you
can't beat that Big Band jazz sound, and it's here, on "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." Diana spins her own style on this classic compared to other recordings,
and makes it her own.
"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" -- beautiful, just beautiful. Diana gives her own take on "White Christmas" -- it's much more jazzier,
and it just works so well. The piano has the sound that Nat King Cole had. "what Are You Doing New Year's Eve" -- this song wasn't really a memorable
favorite for me, but it's the question most asked, on the eve of the New Year. Diana Krall gives this song a great Jazz sound. The classic "Sleigh Ride"
is another great upbeat jazzy number for Diana. The album ends with the Irvin Berlin-penned song, "Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep." It's another
song that doesn't ring the memory bells for me, yet it's another beautiful song, in Diana's style, and very well-done.
The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra helps out with Diana
on this album. The Clayton–Hamilton Jazz Orchestra is a big band led by Jeff Hamilton and brothers John Clayton and Jeff Clayton. The band was founded in Los Angeles
in 1985. This orchestra is fantastic in providing the Big Band / Jazz sounds. Other great musicians also helped, you can see the Personnel listing

Like many of her studio albums, Christmas Songs added another #1 album to her career, on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. Diana Krall is a great jazz
artist. And having a Christmas album to her repretoire just makes her career even better. Christmas Songs is a great album to enjoy during your Christmas
Holidays festivites. Great music to play while setting up the tree, or preparing Christmas dinner. Christmas tunes are enjoyed a little bit more after December 25,
and adding this album is just as adding it to the standard Christmas classics.
