    "I Need An Angel"

THIS ... is American Idol ...

Ruben Studdard becomes the first American Idol finalist to appear on the pages of WSVNRadio. He was the winner of Season Two, as I still believe that this season was the best. Recently, David Cook was crowned as the seventh season's winner. Ruben Studdard released his second CD, I Need An Angel, an album of beautiful soulful and gospel songs.

The title track is a great soulful song to start out the album, (written by R. Kelly). "Center Of My Joy" is an even more soulful powerful ballad (co-written by Bill & Gloria Gaither). The next track is just as soulful - "Goin' Up Yonder."

"Fix It Jesus" is more upbeat gospel, maybe having a bit of a Country/Gospel feel. The gospel favorite "Amazing Grace" has Ruben making this song his own. "Shout To The Lord" is another touching Gospel/Christian ballad, likewise "Running Back To You."

"Restoration" has a Stevie Wonder feel, "We Have Not Forgotten" has the typical soulful sound of Ruben Studdard, likewise "I Surrender All." "Ain't No Need To Worry" is upbeat, typical of the common R&B style. The last song was co-written by Ruben Studdard; "Don't You Give Up,"

I Need An Angel is a good release. Some songs are better than others, but the soulful ballads are the standouts. another typical common sounding R&B song, in today's standards. Ruben Studdard would be dropped from his label after his third release, The Return. Ruben's voice in general is truly exceptional. It's the right songs that keep him popular. I Need An Angel does have good songs. It was nice to see him sing a song written by the Gaithers. It would be even more interesting if there was an entire album of Gaither songs in the traditional Gaither style. All in all, I Need An Angel is a good album, it will be even more enjoyed by the true R&B fans.
