"The Generous Mr. Lovewell"
MercyMe is a very popular Christian Rock band. Next to my other favorites, Third Day, DecemberRadio, and Casting
Crowns, DC Talk (to name a few), their music, like many Christian bands and artists, have recorded some incredible
music in sound, and spreading the Christian faith. MercyMe marks their debut here on WSVNRadio this week, with their
most recent release, 2010's The Generous Mr. Lovewell.
And just who is Mr. Lovewell? There WAS a website for this, (mrlovewell.com); and the emphasis isn't really
on a sole (male) individual, but it is how both men and women can "Love Well." For example, (as was mentioned on the
website): Tip your waiter or waitress more than usual and leave them a "Lovewell Card" or a note simply saying "love well"
Another example: Go to a coffee shop and buy a stranger's coffee, and have the place write "love well" on the cup."
They also suggest to take pictures of these events/examples.
Who exactly is Mr. Lovewell? He’s an idea. He’s a movement. He’s the hope that the little things can add up to a
big change He’s what the Bible has already called us to do…love one another. Look for the best in people. Give people a
chance regardless of status, race or gender. Mr. Lovewell is the understanding that the gospel is for everyone. Some may
receive it, some may reject it, but, from where we’re standing, all that should matter is that the Gospel applies to us
all. Who are we to demand the outcome before we decide to contribute? Do we wait and tip the waitress only if she’s done
a great job? Or do we tip her even when she’s having the worst day? That’s what God’s grace is… unconditional. Grace
leaves no room for “I’ve earned this” or “I deserve this.” What a concept! To love and be loved no matter what!
The first three tracks "This Life," the title track, and "Move" definitely achieves your attention.
These songs have more of a Rock atmosphere. Some may even compare the sound to that of Green Day. The entire album
is afterall, a Chrisitan ROCK album. "Crazy Enough" has a more Pop sound, and could also be compared to songs
that were released from the 1980s. "All Of Creation" is the biggest hit from the album, as it hit #1 on the
Billboard Christian Songs for a total of 9 weeks.
The definite Christian feel and sound is heard throughout the album, and more on songs such as the #1 hit mentioned,
and tracks 6-8: "Beautiful," "Back To You," "Only You Remain." "Free" starts out soft, and could be
compared to a song by U2, yet it rocks towards its end. The remaining songs, "Won't You Be My Love" and "This
So Called Love" have a softer Christian feeling sound, and the latter song mentioned is less than 2 minutes in length.
You can't go wrong with this album... It rocks, it mellows, it continues MercyMe's messages of the Faith.
It's ironic that MercyMe was chosen on this date, 10/10/2010. They did release an album called 10, and it would
be more interesting if this particular album was chosen. Yet, MercyMe is a great Christian band, and we look forward in
reviewing more of their albums.
