    Randy Travis
    Greatest Hits Volume One

    © Warner Bros. Records
    Year of Release: 1992
    Rating:

Seven #1's and 4 more hits make up Randy Travis' Greatest Hits Volume One -- a fantastic compilation of a country legend with a unique voice. Randy Travis' voice has always been a standout, defining a true country sound and style, and his original album Always And Forever was chosen as a WSVNRadio Album Pick of the Week in 1993. Like that album, and this greatest hits compilation, there isn't really a bad song by recorded by Randy Travis.

His seven #1's -- On The Other Hand (1986, and his first #1), "Too Gone Too Long" (1988), "I Told You So" (1988) "Honky Tonk Moon" (1988), "Deeper Than The Holler" (1989), "Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart" (1990), and "If I Didn't Have You" (1992). There were a fewe other #1 songs in between this list here and there, and they can be found on Travis' Greatest Hits Volume Two compilation.

"On The Other Hand" defines absolute, true Country -- great voice, and great sound. "1982" (a non-#1) is also a good Country number, the orchestration is outstanding on "Honky Tonk Moon." "An Old Pair Of Shoes" (non-#1) is also a good country song. "Too Gone Too Long" was originally from the Always And Forever album, an album I truly enjoy, as every song could easily be (or close) #1. "Heroes And Friends" is another good easy-feeling song, and "Reasons I Cheat" (non-#1) closes the compilation, with a good easy sound (despite the song title name). Family," and "Wild Dreams."

As mentioned before, there isn't one bad song on this compilation. An excellent assortment of Travis' music, it does make you want to hear more, as Warnner Bros. released a second volume of his hits. More #1 songs are featured on the second volume, and Travis would achieve more #1's in the years afterwards. Most recently, he has turned to Christian/Gospel music, and he has accomplished success with #1's on the Country chart with this new genre. His Greatest Hits Volume One is a must, for those who enjoy Country music, and for those discovering Randy Travis' music for the first time, likewise for any of his fans.
