Blue Cheer may not be a household name in music, but their psychedelic
version of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" may bring some memories
for those who remember it, back in 1968. Their original release Vincebus
Eruptum focuses on the band's psychedelic and blues styles.
"Rock Me Baby" has the very traditional slow rhythm 3-chord blues style.
"Doctor Please" is an original, written by bassist/vocalist Dick Peterson.
Very psychedelic, very strange, it may not be suitable for most listeners ears.
"Out Of Focus" has a better sound, (written by Peterson), also psychedelic,
sounding more like a garage band, trying to sound like the band Cream. "Parchment
Farm" also has the psychedelic garage band Cream style. Peterson's writing
returns with "Second Time Around," another strange, psychedelic ensemble.
Vincebus Eruptum is weird. As psychedelic as it is, it sounds very much
like a garage band trying to make it big in the psychedelic music area. Where it
may not be enjoyable for some, their style is unique, and blends with the psychedelic
era of the late 1960s at the time. "Summertime Blues" is really the only
song worth listening to, the others are strange in their own ways, only to be enjoyed
by the true psychedelic fans.
