    "Images"

the Crusaders returns this week, with their 1978 release, Images-- The Crusaders achived seven #1 albums, on Billboard's Jazz Albums Chart. Just as The 2nd Crusade, Images delivers exceptional Jazz.

If it's upbeat groovin' funky jazz you're looking for, the album's opener, "Fairy Tales" has all that. It's a great track to start the album. Things slow down drastically (and in a good way), on the next track, "Marcella's Dream." A perfect Smooth Jazz song, it's a perfect mood setter. Just as the opener "Fairy Tales," "Bayou Bottoms" gets the groove back on, with it's great and incredible sound.

"Merry-Go-Round" is another great upbeat tune, easily fitting both the Jazz and (upbeat) Smooth Jazz. Incredible sound. Funky as it gets is heard on "Cosmic Reign," once it kicks into high gear. "Covert Action" begins on the slow side, yet it kicks into another great movin' upbeat funky track. The guitar (my guess the wah-wah guitar, or was it the mouth organ?) is the standout. Ending the album is another great easy-moving upbeat tune, "Snowflake." Another track, that easily fits both Jazz and Smooth Jazz formats.

Just as it states in our 2nd Crusade review -- The Crusaders' Images is (also) a great listen. With Images it's a great assortment of Jazz, Groove, and Funk. It's a great album for Jazz lovers. No doubt, there's enough Jazz here for everyone's tastes. Relaxing Jazz, Funky Jazz, Groovin' Jazz. It is (great sounding) Jazz.

Also mentioned the 2nd Crusade review (where Images was added):
The Crusaders continued their music throughout the past 35 years (1960s - 1990s). Different formations of the group emerged, as they returned in the 1990s, as members Wayne Henderson and Wilton Felder were the from the original lineup. On Images, the Crusaders lineup included Felder (saxophones), Joe Sample (keyboards), Stix Hooper (drums and percussion), Robert "Pops" Popwell (bass), and Billy Rogers (guitar).

No doubt, The Crusaders is great Jazz music. As their 2nd Crusade was enjoyed, so is Images. In listening to their music, it is easily heard and seen that they would top the Jazz albums chart. Talented and gifted are the Crusaders, as every instrument on each track sounds very, very professional. From the Images lineup, Joe Sample would also release solo albums of his own.

Although there are only seven total tracks on Images, it displays a great Jazz album. Having only seven songs, the lengths of each song are four minutes or more. Images is an all-instumental album. It's all powerful Jazz and Smooth Jazz.
